Quick Birthday Bag

It was crunch time! I had no time to sew lately and about 15 minutes before we had to leave to a birthday party. I still needed a bag for the present. We got the little girl school supplies, a wipe dry erase board, dry erase markers, pens, pads, paper, markers, crayons, etc. I wanted a little carrier for all of it.

I decided to go ahead and see what I had and this is what I came up with.

I had these two fabrics so I thought I would make a reversible bag.

Remember I said we had 15 minutes, can you tell in the picture? That's me going, "Wait, stop! Let me take a picture."

"Wait, don't go, let me see the bag. Wait! Don't move" (snap) "K, let's go!"

I know terrible pictures, but it's the only ones I have.

More flowers

L is loving the flowers, so I had to make more.

I made some smaller ones this time because her head is so tiny and her hair is so thin.

She sure is loving them!

Ammo Sash

C is modeling yet another girl item. My poor boy. Although this one, he really didn't mind. It is an ammo sash for some nerf dart guns he got for his friend's birthday. She is a very girly girl, so I had to make it girly. C was so excited about this little sash that he can't wait for me to make him one.

C kept asking me, "Mommy can you make me one now?" "Can you make it right when we get home?" "When will you be able to make it?" "Can mine be in camo?"

He is a blurry close up. That happens when I am sewing up until 15 minutes before we have to leave and I still need to take a shower. I rush through the pictures and they just don't turn out very cute. I will have to do amazing :-) pictures when I make C's sash. If I can.

New skirt

Remember this birthday present? Well, I had extra fabric and L loves her 1 long skirt. She wears it all the time. So, I made her another. Here she is getting ready. Don't you just love the shirt she paired with it?

Now, ready to go, shoes and everything.

She wore the skirt for 2 days straight, even to bed. I finally got it off of her today. At least she likes it, right? I guess I will be making a lot more long skirts.

Beach Blankets

I tend to get stuck at the beach either when it's cold and I'm wearing something for warmer weather because it was hot at my house OR when I think it's going to be cold and I don't have a towel, but it turns out to be nice and I end up in the water. So... I need a beach blanket that would serve both purposes. This is what I came up with.

That's L on it with her little 4th of July dress. The blankets go perfect! Anyway, on the top, I have fleece and the bottom is terry cloth. The fleece is super warm and the terry cloth absorbs the water if I decide to go in.

I love it! It stays in my car and is perfect for a pic-nic, ball game or the beach. When I made my blanket, my sister-in-law got one for Christmas, and my father-in-law got one for his boat in yellow because his boat is yellow and white.

These blankets have gotten a ton of use. There is just one small problem with my blanket. When I went on that hike with all the poison oak, I used my blanket that night at dinner when I was freezing before I went home to shower. Well, the oil from the poison oak transferred to the blanket. Every time I use it, I get mild poison oak where I hold the blanket under my arm. I used the darn blanket Friday, Saturday I got a few spots on my arm, used it again yesterday at the beach and more spots appeared this morning. So, last night I washed the blanket for the 4th time since the poison oak incident. Today, I used the blanket again at the beach. I'm praying it's all washed out.

Father's Day

I know, I know, it's way past Father's Day. But we were on vacation so we didn't do my husband's present until this week. Two years ago we started a little tradition for Father's Day. I got my husband those little stones that you can make and put hand prints in them. He loved them and I told him we can make the stones every year and eventually have stepping stones throughout our garden with the kids hand prints as they grow. At the time we didn't have a garden, but he loved the idea.

The kids love doing these. They were so excited.

It's so cool, each year we can see how much bigger C and L's little hands are. I love little baby/kid hands. They are so cute. I wish I can keep them little forever. At least I get to see how little they were each year as they grow.

What little artists I have.

Yes, my husband gets something special from me too. But this is something we look forward to every year.

Apron to Dress

Remember this little apron I got at the thrift store not too long ago?

Well, I mentioned in that post that I knew exactly what I was going to do with it. I have been dying to make L's little summer dress out of it. I needed just a little bit of that white islet, but haven't had a chance to run to the store till now. So, made her little dress this morning.

Here is what I did...

I cut arm holes then got that little lace embellishment and used it for sleeves. I found those cute flowers right next to the lace and had to get it for the dress also. It went so perfect and is so springish.

Then I cut off the bottom and used part of that for the bloomers and the other part as bias tape for the arm holes. I had just enough for both arms.

There wasn't enough for the bloomers so I had a little white islet fabric for part of the bloomers.

I love the way it turned out!

It's light, airy and summery. Oh, I added some more flowers to the back of the bloomers, partly so L knows which side is the back and partly cause it was cute.

There is L in her new dress and her little friend E. They have so much fun are are just the cutest together! I brought blood oranges to Angel Day for Little League and there is already a stain running down the front of the dress. Nothing a little stain remover and wash won't get out.

Hobo Sac's

More Hobo Sac's! Yep, the same pattern I got from Made. Last week I mentioned that C loved the homemade present we gave to a friend so much that he said it was the best present we ever gave. He loved it all, well all but the skirt. He has been asking me to make him a sac ever since. We had another friend that had a birthday and I knew she would love the make-up so we made her some of that and C was telling me I needed to make her a sac also. So I made her a sac and he kept asking when I could do his. Of course I had to make his right after. I just couldn't not do it. You know when they are so sweet asking you to make something that they absolutely love, how could you say no?

Here are the 2 new sac's. Now I just need to do one for L. She waiting so nicely for her Hobo Sac.

C wanted the this fabric that I made his cape out of for L's birthday party. I messed up on cutting the capes I made so I had weird pieces of scraps left. So I had to piece it together to get enough fabric. Can you see that little seam hiding behind the pocket? That's why I added this little extra pocket, to hide that little seam. I knew Cole wouldn't mind because he LOVES pockets. He had it full inside and out within 5 minutes of me giving him the sac.

Here is the birthday sac. I do have to say, I love giving a present in the Hobo Sac, there is no waist. No trash from the wrapping and it's SO cute! Yes, we had to do the make-up again. I just love that stuff. It was funny, the mom was a little nervous when she saw it thinking she was going to really have to regulate the use of it. Then I told her to feel it. That's when she realized it wasn't real. She was very happy and so was her daughter.

Another way to not waist any part of the present, I buy a book instead of a card and write a happy birthday note on the book or an index card and tape it to the book. Card's get trashed, books get loved.

One more picture of C's sac. He just loves it.

These are just so much fun and so quick and easy to make. I have said that I don't like making the same thing twice because I get board, but these are just too easy.

Yellow

My bestfriend's little girl LOVES yellow. So, I thought it would be cool to give her a hand made, yellow present for her birthday. I wasn't blogging at the time, this was when I would take pictures on my phone and e-mail them to her. Therefore, all I have are camera phone pictures.

I went to the thrift stores to see what I could find in yellow and found this shirt. I thought it would be perfect to make one of those shirt-tutu things. That is my attempt at it. Not bad for dress-up. The purse on the other hand is pretty cool. I wish I had more pictures of that. It really turned out cute.

This picture is so tiny because the quality is so bad, but I wanted to give you an idea of what it looked like. I lined it with some bright yellow flannel I happened to have on hand.

It was so much fun making this hand made gift and because it was all yellow, the little girl loved it. Now, if I see cheap, cute, yellow fabric I buy it for her next birthday.

Handmade gift

Ok, so I was totally inspired by Ladybug Blessings to do a completely handmade gift. I had a ton of fun doing it and there was no waist. That was all cool, but the best part was, on the way to the party, C said, "Mommy, this is the best present we've ever given somebody."

So, here is what I did...

There is some fake makeup inspired by Playing House. No toxic chemicals on any kids face with this and it was super easy to make. My 5 year old did one of them.

The little unicorn thing is what I call "Art on the go." I have seen many different versions of these things, but this is my version. It has vinyl in it for a chalk board, chalk, crayons, a pencil and paper.

Then I made a little dance skirt. My little model wasn't into modeling today.

Last was this little Hobo Sac. Yes, it was made from the tutorial by Made.

I used the Hobo Sac as the gift bag to hold the present.

I don't have a picture of it, but the only part that was not Homemade was the card that actually wasn't a card at all. I always buy a book and use that as the card. I just tape a little index card to it with the happy birthday message to it. That way, a card isn't just tossed out in the trash to fill up the land fills.

Well, I hope you are inspired as I was to give homemade. It's quite a lot of fun.
