Hobo Sac's

More Hobo Sac's! Yep, the same pattern I got from Made. Last week I mentioned that C loved the homemade present we gave to a friend so much that he said it was the best present we ever gave. He loved it all, well all but the skirt. He has been asking me to make him a sac ever since. We had another friend that had a birthday and I knew she would love the make-up so we made her some of that and C was telling me I needed to make her a sac also. So I made her a sac and he kept asking when I could do his. Of course I had to make his right after. I just couldn't not do it. You know when they are so sweet asking you to make something that they absolutely love, how could you say no?

Here are the 2 new sac's. Now I just need to do one for L. She waiting so nicely for her Hobo Sac.

C wanted the this fabric that I made his cape out of for L's birthday party. I messed up on cutting the capes I made so I had weird pieces of scraps left. So I had to piece it together to get enough fabric. Can you see that little seam hiding behind the pocket? That's why I added this little extra pocket, to hide that little seam. I knew Cole wouldn't mind because he LOVES pockets. He had it full inside and out within 5 minutes of me giving him the sac.

Here is the birthday sac. I do have to say, I love giving a present in the Hobo Sac, there is no waist. No trash from the wrapping and it's SO cute! Yes, we had to do the make-up again. I just love that stuff. It was funny, the mom was a little nervous when she saw it thinking she was going to really have to regulate the use of it. Then I told her to feel it. That's when she realized it wasn't real. She was very happy and so was her daughter.

Another way to not waist any part of the present, I buy a book instead of a card and write a happy birthday note on the book or an index card and tape it to the book. Card's get trashed, books get loved.

One more picture of C's sac. He just loves it.

These are just so much fun and so quick and easy to make. I have said that I don't like making the same thing twice because I get board, but these are just too easy.

Sandwich Wraps

Since you guys so kindly told me how much you loved my snack packs, I have been meaning to get to another project that is WAY over due. My sandwich wraps.

C has one that I bought for too much money since I do sew myself and L doesn't have one at all. So, I am going to try this tutorial thing again with it. It's a little more complicated then the snack packs, but still pretty easy.

First, you will need:
1. Cute Fabric - scraps works well
2. Velcro
3. Food Saver bags
4. Tape

I cut a rectangle 10 x 13.5 inches. You need 2 in the fabric and 1 in the plastic. Save the other 1/2 of the food saver bag for the other sandwich wrap or make a snack pack with it. The sandwich wrap could have been a little bigger, 13.5 x 13.5, but that was as big as I could go with the bags. Then, I cut of the corners. Also, cut an inch of velcro.

Take one piece of the fabric and tape it right side of the fabric to the wrong side of the plastic. Tape, not pin because the pins make little holes in the plastic. As you are sewing, take the tape off just before you get to it. Sew all the way around. This is so the cute side of the fabric shows through when your child opens their lunch.

Sorry! I don't have a picture of this step.

Now, take the other piece of fabric, place the rough velcro on the right, long side in the middle and sew that on. Another opps on my part. I didn't take the picture of this step on the cherries. Also, I hadn't cut the corners yet. I hope it still makes sense. So, use this picture for velcro placement only.

Now, place that piece of fabric with the velcro on it right side down on the right side of the plastic. Slip the soft velcro inside with the fuzzy side toward the plastic. Don't do it the wrong way like me. Now, sew almost all the way around leaving one short side open.

Trim the edges.

Flip the wrap right side out and fold under the open side then sew. NO top stitching, it just makes little holes. Again, sorry! The picture is in the wrong fabric. I chose not to do the tutorial in this fabric because I only did one piece of fabric. It's just not as nice when it's done that way because you can see all the raw edges through it.

Now, it's done. You just need to fold it and put something a little heavy on it over night so the creases form.

There, now you have a reusable baggie for your sandwich and for your veggies. I hope you are inspired to be green and sew. One your kiddos open it up, it's a little place mat.

All of this fabric was scraps I had from past projects. None was bought and my scraps don't ever get thrown away. They come in very handy.

Easy Bed Spread

As I've mentioned before, my son is very picky. He likes things very specific and he is very sensitive to textures. He has been wanting a blanket like his sister's that is silky on one side and soft on the other. I wanted to make him a new blanket for his bed because I never really liked what was on there. It was this very basic sports print.

The old comforter was very big, thick and bulky. It didn't tuck into his bed well, so it never looked quite right. When C kept asking for this blanket, I decided I would see what fabric's I had on hand. I would cut up his old comforter and add some soft stuff to it then put silky on the back. So I found brown minky, brown teady bear stuff and went to JoAnns for the rest. There I got a flannel and blue super soft fleece. For the back I got satin.

I'm not a big fan of quilt making, cutting all those tiny squares is just tedious to me, so I decided I would do great big squares. C liked to feel the soft squares so I figured he would like that better anyway.

I put all the squares together randomly, well, I tried to make them look random, but I put thought into it so the same fabrics wouldn't be next to eachother and this is what I came up with.

It's perfect and it fits perfect on his bed. I didn't line it with anything because C tends to sleep very hot and it's light enough that he can make his own bed. C loves rubbing his hands on the different squares. He has is favorite fabric that has changed a time or two.

I also didn't put a binding on the edge because he didn't want one. So, to put the top and bottom together, I just sewed right sides together, left an opening, flipped it, sewed close and top stitched all the way around. That's it, done!

His little boo bear blends right in.

Boppy Cover

I have a friend who got an adorable oversized boppy for her baby shower with her first child. It was very soft and very girly. The only problem was it wasn't a cover so it wasn't removable and it was bigger the than normal boppy's. So, now that that little girl is 5 years old and she is on her 3rd child which happens to be a boy, she is ready for a new cover for that boppy.

You can see the once cute pink, plush boppy is now quite faded and not so cute. It's ready for a cover.

I took my lovely pattern paper (newspaper) and traced the shape.

The original boppy was made in 3 pieces, 2 in the shape of the boppy and 1 little wedge piece at the top of it connecting the 2.

Then I laid my pieces on top of the fabric to make sure they fit right and had enough seam allowance. I couldn't just unstitch the old cover because it was just stuffed. I didn't want the new one to be lumpy so we decided on re-covering. I made sure there was plenty of seem allowance because I could take it in after I tried the fit, but if it was too small, I'd have to start all over with expensive fabric. Then I cut out the fabric from my pattern pieces.

Last, I sewed it all together.

I love the way it turned out. It looks so fresh and clean. Good as new. She just had to take it home and whipstitch (I think that's what it's called) the last little opening. I would have opted for a zipper if it were me because I will do anything not to sew by hand. It's just so tedious. Now the boppy is done a month before that little boy is ready to arrive.
